First, I've used search and manually ready through the polls and other threads in the section, and I was unable to find any real answers to my individual circumstance.

I've new to harley's, but looking to do my own wrenching. The first 1k mile service was free, so the moco dealer did that one. Now I'm approaching 4k miles and starting to plan out my oil/primary change.

I'm thinking about maybe Redline or Amsoil but I'm not really sure of weights/types for what might do best for each hole.

I live in Florida, and I drive a 75 mile highway commute for work each day. I also do a couple 200+ rides once or twice a month around the state. And I typically, find myself averaging around 4k rpm (80mph) on the commute.

Can anyone give some recommendations for what type of oil I should use, and is there a opinions on filter? The polls indicate that most just use the HD filter.

Here's the reply I gave for a question in the Sportster forum. I also just use HD filters for both.

Engine oil's separate in Sporty and Twin Cam engines. I use Mobil 1 15w50 in both bikes year round. $25 for 5 qt. jug at WalMart. Can barely get dino oil for that price anywhere else. I've tried several different oils and the Mobil 1 is as good as any.

Here's the stuff for Sportster trannys and the primary on TC's. Redline Lightweight Shockproof. Redline recommends it for Sportsters so I tried it in the Dyna primary too. Clutch plates separate when clutch is disengaged, so hold the clutch in for a second and usually no more clunk into first gear on the Sporty, and never a clunk into first on the Dyna. Fantastic stuff......
