1200 valves in 883 heads????
I am asking because I have a 00 883 and I am looking into doing the 1250 kit from nhrs and
wondering if I can put 1200 valves in a 883 heads, and if it is worth it without changes cams and do i need to do piston work for valve clearance... will it run right...I had heard something somewhere that bigger valves in these bikes makes you loose bottom end (or something like that)...or anyone out there tried this mod.???

I have stage 2 porting - 883 heads that were done @ NRHS....... I'm pretty sure they are bigger than 1200 valves.
Intake valve is 1.715, Exhaust Valve is 1.480
It runs right.

Valve sizes are 1.715" intake and 1.480" exhaust in 88-03 1200XL heads. I guess they are the same size as a 1200's so the cams will help make up the difference.

As you intend buying from him, phone Dan and ask his advice. I am sure he will talk through with you what each stage of headwork does and you can decide which one to go with.

with NRHS stage 2 headwork we install the Kibblewhite black diamond 1.715 Intake and 1.480 exhaust valves. These are not stock 1200 valves, they are custom conversion valves made just for 883 heads. 883s require a longer valve stem. If you used stock 1200 valves you would have very short installation heights which can cause valve spring coil bind.
Here is a dyno sheet showing the impact of our various stages of 883 headwork on a well build 1250 cc Sportster.

ok, so no I can't .....I can do the work myself, do i need to cut the 1250 pistons with the bigger valves (that you sell)......and do I need to cut for bigger seats or can I just recut the original seats...also without a cam change will it run good at the bottom end....(00 883 )...what i am thinking, is to buy jugs, fitted pistons, valves, seats(??) , and guides...I already have a top end gasket set ....does that sound like it will work???

so I spoke with Dan at nrhs and he said that I can put in bigger valves but not 1200 valves because they have shorter stems, also I don't need to replace the seats and that I can just recut the original seats for the bigger valves..but after talking for awhile we decided with the way I ride bigger valves prolly won't help much because
I don't ride in the hi rpms much and that is where big valves really help...so I decided to just go with a new cam and 1250 jugs and pistons...sounds like this is going to be a fun upgrade....thanks to Dan at NHRS for all the help...
