Default Novelty helmets...What's the point?

I've been wondering why would anyone buy/wear a novelty helmet? I mean if you are gonna wear a helmet, why not a real one? Am I missing something?

No helmet, you get pulled over. Novelty helmet, you don't get pulled over. In CA anyway.

They are the smallest lightest helmet "looking" thing to wear in helmet required states. You sure this was not a rhetorical post?

some guys are afraid of mushroom head,,,but then again I've seen some guys that shouldn't be wearing a novelty helmet either,,,
