Default noise behind primary cover 2007 Roadglide

I have 2007 Road Glide with stock engine and pipes. Noise coming behind primary cover. Setting in neutral and clutch pulled in, noise doesn't change, but if I put in gear the noise is allot quieter. I did replace the primary shaft seal at 21,000 miles and I now have 28,000 miles. Suggestions I have gotten so far were the primary chain and tensioner maybe bad and maybe the primary shaft bearing. Any advise would very much appreciated. Thanks

As well as the primary (crank shaft) bearing, there are other possible sources, like primary chain adjustment, compensating sprocket, trans mainshaft bearing and inner primary maishaft bearing. If putting the trans in gear dampens the noise that would indicate that it could be anything in the primary that is loaded when in gear.

It sounds like a noisey chain, but I took off the clutch access cover and I couldn't see any unusual marks on the chain or anything. It doesn't sound like anything is hitting inside. I just need to take off the primary cover and see what's going on.

I would agree you need to remove the cover and see if the chain is rubbing..Any big pieces of metal on the plug?
