Does anyone out there know if I can find out the year and month of manufacture from engine number 2C6996XH4 or vin number N941257P. HELP APPRECIATED

Jacko, '2C' would mean that the motor was originally an FX model. The 'H4' would mean it was manufactured in 1974. Points to remember....Starting in 1970 all HDs had a frame number and engine number that were identical. Starting in 1970 unique die stamps are used to stamp the engine and frame. These numbers are protected by a star before and after the numbers. Starting in 1970 the engine numbers are located on the right engine case on a raised boss.

As far as the vin number is concerned, I am truly at a loss. Where is it on the bike.

That VIN number is odd. Is it a custom frame? I hope the VIN matches your title.

 

Jacko, if it is a stock frame, it should have numbers simialr to the engine numbers. Otherwise i too would assume it is a custom frame. Is it registered as a 1974 model?

 

Jacko, does Aus have the same vin number system as the States or Canada? Maybe one of the other Austrailians here can help.
