Take that fairing shell off & look in there . . . EEEEK !!!!!!!!!!

 

I just sold my Road King Custom because I wanted the full fairing, life's funny. Anyhow, if you want the protection of a full fairing just buy the windshield that goes on the Police Electra Glide....

Gauges, bars, nacelle, gas tank, wiring to accomodate - may not be your best idea!
Lotsa bucks, major workand no value in the finished product.
Trade for an 09 FLHR.

 

From personal experience...it is a real challenge.
Bear with me on this one...
My current bike is a 2001 FLHTPI (Police electra glide).
It started out as a poilce bike for the Raleigh NC PD. After 10K mikes it was up on bid and a local bought it. He got it at a steal. He too did not like the EG look and modified it into a Road King. I bought the bike from him and converted it back into a EG..eventually making it an ultra minus the electronic cruise and intercom.
For all praticel purposes the EG and RK are the same bike. A few major differences and things you need to consider. You will need the following main items:
[ul][*]tank[*]tank dash (console)[*]main wiring harness[*]nacelle wiring harness[*]nacelle[*]riser cover[*]handlebar lock[*]windshield w/ mounting points[*]new front fender if you have any emblems as the EG and RK emblems on the front fender do not have the same mounting points...holes in the fender for mounting.[*]speedometer[*]instrument (idiot) lights[/ul]Cost on all those items new will be $3000 or so. The tank and wiring are the most expensive...new. I suggest scouring ebay. I did and saved a ton.
My conversion from an RK back to a EG ultra after i sold all the RK parts on ebay was 4000$ that includes a new painting. It took me about 6 weeks, but most was waiting on paint. If you have all the parts and a service manual you can do this in a couple weeks. It is not for the timid but can be completed.

Look for some who wants to trade UP to a Glide, and swap.

 

I think I would just trade and get what I want. if you do the conversion your resale value will be in the dumpster cause it wont be a electra glide anymore and still wont be a true road king.

 

It seems pretty simple to me.&nbsp\\;
Get a pair of wire cutters and clean up the wiring.
Get a hacksaw and clean up the brackets
Get a wrench and bolt up the ROad King front end
Voila!&nbsp\\; Instant Road King

I agree with many others, trade.&nbsp\\; It can be done, but it's too messy, and difficult.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;A guy in one of our sister clubs&nbsp\\;attempted it, and was plagued with problems throughout the entire project.&nbsp\\; He ended up selling the bike to someone who could finish the project, and took a big hit on it, when he could have traded for a Road King even.

I have a 91 flt and its time for a change removing the faring I saw a nacelle that lets me keep my cluster but turns my bagger into a convertible but it was at a bar and I never found out where he got it I have spent many hours on the internet looking 4 it to no avail actually thats why I loged on here today to see if anyone could sell me one good luck and do what you want before it becomes illeagal
