Default Paint Bubbling @ Fuel Tank

My paint Job is perfect with no blemishes. However the paint under the gas cap just started bubbling up. WTF!!!???? Can anybody recomend a different cap that has a protective insert bezel that fits in the hole, protects the edges, and covers the paint that just bubbled? I prefer something made from stainless steel. I did see one from JP cycles.

This is a major bummer!

I hear yeah on the paint bubble bummer. I too have one on the tank but not near the cap. May not be the caps fault??
I will be looking for a paint guy in our area this winter.

Yeah, the cap isn't causing it. The only thing I can think of is I spill A little gas once in awhile.

The cap isn't the problem, it is the paint job. When the tank was painted the finish coat was not completely sealed around the edge of the cap, and the fumes work their way up under the paint and start bubbling it.

Had this happen to my Bro N Law's HD with the Harley numbered paint set. Bike is a 2009 and paint is flaking off of it all over the bike. Fender is now bubbling too, but that isn't a fuel issue but more like just poor prep work.

My 09 SG has a bubble on the rear fender next to the tail light. The back edge of the front fender flaked off the whole width and about a 1/4" inch high. When I pointed this out to the service writer at the dealership she said "You ride your bike a lot so you should keep a squirt bottle of water handy. After every ride you should use the squirt bottle to wet the paint after every ride." I was just speechless after that. Oh the extended warranty won't cover that!

Thanks for the responses, but nobody has answered my question yet! I know my cap isn't causing the problem.

Does anybody know of a gas cap assembly that has a seperate insert that provides some kind of escutcheon or protective ring around the hole?.

I'm talking about something permanent that looks good.

landmark sells a protective cap ring with the cap, they sell it either as a set, with a matching fuel gauge (led light style) or just as the gas cap. look it up

I would talk to the dealer or call the mock about it before I bought anything. There were paint problems, the 13 Heritage had the paint peeling off under the gas cap. I mentioned it to the dealer and was told me that HD had can and inspected all of their bikes and replaced several tanks. Maybe they'll replace yours.
