I would take it to the dealer and see what you can work out as a warranty fix.

That's why I originally asked the question, to see if this was a common warranty item. I already have to take it in to have the second replacement on the rear wheel due to peeling chrome, so I think I'll have them take a look at this issue as well. I just wanted to get an idea on where I stood on it.

Pitts, that's classic dis-similar corrosion, salt and water moisture did it. Don't want to kick you while you down but a lot of seasoned riders avoid riding in the winter because of that particular reason. You should see how fast magnesium will corrode. Myself I use Starbrite Marine Polish on most every surface except paint on my two bikes. It's a good sealer and won't "burn" off like some of the other waxes. Look for it a marine store like West Marine. To repair, some fork dis-assembly may be required. Good luck.

 

I have over 14,000 miles on my 07 Got it in Nov. 06 ride it in all kinds of salt,but i do rinse the shlt out of it,afterwards.Anyways,I have no such corrosion taking place.

Well, I took the Sporty down to the dealer in Southampton, Dockgate 20, and they're going to cover the fork lowers under warranty. Ben, the tech, said it's pretty common over here where the winters are really wet and the roads salty. He's going to do the rear wheel (peeling chrome), too. Good dude, overall. Very pragmatic view of what should and shouldn't be covered. Doesn't take the **** and, likewise, won't let the **** be taken, either.

Oh, and to give you an indicator of what the weather's been like over here for the last 6 months or so, when I started getting ready to get the bike out, the skies were blue and sunny. By the time I got the bike out, showers had developed. [:@] Drove through two more on the way. [:@][:@]

And, you know what? Hail sounds really cool when it hits your helmet at 70 mph!!

And, by the time I left the dealer, the clouds had cleared and it was warm(er) and beautifully sunny. And I had the rest of the afternoon free. Guess what I did!!
