Power Commander V and ECM data questions
I bought a PC-V for my Dyna and now have access to the data that it collects from the bike (engine temp, AFR, etc). I'd like to know more about what data the PCV collects from the J1850 and what it can tell me abouthte "health" of my Harley.
Idle speed (once warm) is about 1000 rpm - it bounces around either side of 1000. Is that normal? The documentation that came with the bike said it was checked and idle is (I am not exact, I dont have the paperwork in front of me) 970 rpm. Seems right.
I am not getting any reading for AFR 1 or AFR 2 - I am assuming that the bike needs to warm up first (its at 222 F with no data).
How warm does it have to get and how high temp is too high (right now the bike is in storage, so idiling builds up heat that I cannot get rid of by going for a ride).
In what range is the temp normally after a long ride?

the PC-V is a fuel management device that piggy-backs your ECM and not a tuning device therefore the amount of data you can see/collect is very miniscule in comparison to a true tuning device.
To answer your questions;
1. Idle RPM - 970 is about right for a semi-warmed up engine. It will idle a little higher when it's cold but will certainly fluctuate around 1000 RPM when warmed up.
2. at 176 temp your bike is warmed up. As fxstdsei03 stated, you won't see AFR values unless you're running the auto tune module (seperate piece)
3. Engine temp - that will certainly vary depending on how the bike is ridden, the conditions of the ride, altitude, outside temperature, etc. There really is no way to tell what an engine temp will be after a long ride unless you can actually record the data like the SESTP and TTS Mastertune systems can do.
